Surprise, surprise, the loud, opinionated, female was booted off first. Nooooo!!!
Damn you Australia! Do we really need to see more of Bodie's chanting? His running around bitching about his psycho girlfriend TJ, to anyone who'll listen? His bullyboy, outlandish behaviour? Is this what we want to seeee????
For fucks sake. Kate was the fly in the ointment. Can you imagine what she would have been like once she felt comfortable and came out of her shell some more???
There was much potential for in depth conversations, revelations, and good ol fashioned bitch fighting in her, and now she's gone.
BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I thought she handled herself very well on the eviction stage with Gretski. She was composed, articulate and very insightful. I'm positive there was more to her than met the eye, but now we'll never know.
Shame on you Australia. SHAME!!

this is why I find BB so interesting. Societally speaking we applaud vapid people (especially women), we like it when men act like little boys and dislike women who are confronting and strong and we absolutely hate them when they above a size 8-10. I call bullshit on the 'but she's annoying' claims. Let's face it, they're ALL annoying and Bodie is mostly annoying.
The reasons for her being out are the same reasons why it's very difficult for women to succeed in mainstream terms if they don't fit a certain admired stereotype.
Spewing.
I wasted $2.20 trying to vote Bodie off.
M, spot on! I could not have said it better. Kate didn't fit the mould, therefor she must GO!
Lala, take heart. I spent waaaaaaay more than that *cries*
Well knock me down with a feather...I would never have picked her as being the ONE to go...well, actually I did but I didn't see it as I was at my parents place and THAT show is beneath them...so they watched the bloody LOGIES lol
I don't see how beeing an annoying and arrogant twat = being a 'strong' woman. If a male carried on with the same kind of immature and two-faced behaviour in the house as Kate displayed, we'd all brand him a prize dickwad, and choose to evict him instantly.
Her weight has nothing to do with it either - as I've stated on my blog, Chrissie Swan from a few years back was another 'big girl', yet she ended up being BB runner-up. Just because someone comes from a social/ethnic group which is traditionally discriminated against (e.g. the obese, Jews, homosexuals etc etc), shouldn't give them 'immunity' from other's dislike, as long as this dislike is based their individual characteristics, rather than said social grouping.
Saying I dislike Kate because she's overweight, would be wrong. Saying I dislike Kate, and I'm glad she's been evicted, because she's an arrogant (did you see the copious amounts of eye-rolling on the eviction night), two-faced (see all the blatantly fake 'love you's when she was leaving the house ?), bitch (pretty much every second sentence out of her mouth during her time in the house), is an entirely valid opinion, and non-discrimatory.
It's the same as saying, for example, that I dislike Mike Tyson - not because he's an African American male, but because he's a violent, misogynistic, serial-rapist. Just because you come from a societally 'disadvantaged' group doesn't give you carte-blanche to behave as you like, and then cry 'discrimination' when you rub people up the wrong way. If only more people realised this, the world would be a much better place !
Every year we lose the irritating ones. Its just shitful.
I voted for Bodie to go and Kate to save but it looked like she had no saves at all....
As I was at wor last night I missed the eviction but my good friends in the nursing allocations department gave me a call to tell me who was evicted, I kid you not, they are awesome my allocators!!!! Poor Kate.....
There's more to kate than meets the eyeshadow more like it! What the fuck was with that? Jesus sweetheart learn to apply make-up to "enhance" your looks not freakin ruin them!
Seriously though, I agree! Kate was an interseting and unique person unlike some of the other shallow twats we are now left with :(
Thank God for TJ, I don't think she has ever had a rational thought in her life so she will be amusing until she goes :)
I wasted $1.65 :(
Kate's the Housemate I know in real life. (I said I wasn't going to identify which one I knew until they were voted out.) And I knew she'd be out first. She's like that in real life.
SHE WASN'T BEING MISREPRESENTED! SHE ACTUALLY IS THAT ANNOYING!!
:)
Anyway, she was irritating me and I'm glad she's out (for her own sake). The baby thing was news to me because I haven't seen her in a few years, but it hasn't changed how annoying she can be.
I think it would have been a better House if she'd stayed in there a little longer, but there was no way the 13 year-old girls who make up the majority of the votes in BB were going to leave her there after that first week she had.
And not having the perfect body - that's reason enough to vote her out when you're a vapid pre-teen who idolises the Emmas of this world.
It's wrong, but there you have it.
The teenage girls were saving Bodie and his model body. I'm sure of it. Jamie just went a bit unnoticed, so it all fell to Kate. The graph was harsh... 55%? Crazy. People in Australia don't know good tv when they see it.
Scorpy, Lolzz, your olds are the business.
Dissapearingboy, see you are what is wrong with the voting public. Who gives a flying fuck if she rolls her eyes, or is a backstabbing bitch? WE don't have to live with her. Voting out the aggressive, in your face types like Kate, leaves a house full of BORING people.
The show thrives on conflict, and drama, without it, it's DULL.
People who take the "lets punish **** for being a twat" are just moronic! Would you rather watch a house full of Rebecca and Jamie types?
Those two are all good within the MIX, but a house full of them? SNORE!!
I think Kate was very strong for going through what she has, standing up to BB, and then telling everyone about her loss. That was no easy thing to do. She deserves to be admored for that.
I could give a rats if she was morbidly obese or stick thin, who cares?? I'm interested in what people bring to the house, and like it or not she brought a dynamic that was interesting to watch, ESPECIALLY when she was being petty and backstabbing!!
Tempest, I wasted a pretty penny trying to save her, but looks like I was the only one!
Cazzie, you need to get a vcr and tape it. That's what I do and I don't miss a thing.
LittleRene, someone in the forum likened her to MIMI from The Drew Carey show, bahahaha!
Hayley, I think you got off lightly.
Bevis, You know her? wow, poor you lolzzz. Having said that, I did enjoy watching her stir up shit in the house.
Amanda, curse the teenies and their unlimited credit!!
I found myself YELLING at the TV.... WTF is with that... I couldn't believe how she looked!! Have you seen Jailbyrde's post???
Sums Kate up well... all with a picture!!
"you know what I mean...." I know so many girls like kate.. bless them all.... as annoying as they are!
Dear Steph,
As I've said before, the whole format of the show is structured towards giving us "conflict" and "drama", with or without the presence of 'Kate-types'.
Coop up a bunch of strangers 24/7 for 3 months in the close confines of the BB house, and even the 'nicest' of sugar-sweet personalities will eventually descend to bickering, backstabbing, and the sort of paranoid monlogues we've already seen TJ engage in. It's a well-documented fact of group psychology, backed up by countless studies from the 'wonderful' people at NASA, the military, the offshore oil-drilling industry, and similar organisations interested in locking up groups of people in stressful environments over extended periods of time.
The satisfaction derived from watching someone like Kate being 'bitchy' or 'creating conflict' in the house is one strictly of 'diminishing returns', because it's not really a (d)evolution in any sense. This is Kate's default personality, so the bitchiness and conflict she has capacity to generate quickly gets stale i.e. 'same old, same old'.
Take one of the 'boring' personalities (by your definition) like Jamie or Rebecca on the other hand, and I guarantee you if they are still in the house closer to the end when the 'competition' really starts to get serious, and the claws come out, THAT will be when we get the really INTERESTING conflicts.
It's when we see the 'stable' and 'boring' personalities start to fray at the edges, that 'reality' shows like BB are at their best. If you've ever seen a fantastic independent Canadian flick called "Series 7", which came out just after the very first series of the U.S. Survivor, you'll know what I'm talking about.
To give you another analogy - which news story is more likely to grab your attention (moral judgements aside) -
(1) The aggressive, alcoholic, ex-con who has long harboured a stated mistrust of his employer, and finally decides to shoot up the place, after complaining for 6 months to the courts and the media about his work conditions, or
(2) The quiet, law-abiding, church-going, accountant at the same company, who, for no apparent reason, brings in a Mac-10 to work one day two weeks after his promotion, lines everyone up in the stock-room, and starts blasting after uttering the single inscrutable word; "Rosebud" ?
Like it or not, Kate's dynamic was BORING ! 'Cheap bitchiness' (much like cheap machismo) is ultimately bland and predictable - with someone like Kate, the cheap shot is what you can always expect, and what you're always going to get. It's the UNEXPECTED conflicts amongst the supposed 'quiet' (in your words 'boring') types that are the REAL 'gems' of reality TV !
Oh ... and the whole weight discussion was in response to M's first comment about society hating women above a size 8-10 :)
Just wondering (because I can't be bothered finding an actual forum to discuss this on)... if we're now into the 7th season, is there anyone left in the (lets say) 18-35yr old age group who doesn't know someone who's been on BB? Bevis knew Kate, I knew one of the girls in season, um, er, must have been 2004 I guess. Does everyone have some sort of connection to BB? Its like an infection that is slowly spreading...
omg i absolutely agree with you on what you said about Emma. Man, she's a mean girl!
YummyMummy, haven't had time to visit Jail byrde's blog yet, but will get to it shortly.
Dear Dissapearingboy,
Show me where any of the more "quiet" HM's have gone off like firecrackers in the later stages? NONE except Chrissie.
Give me a house full of Kate's any day over a house full of Rebecca and Jamies....Not that I don't love jamie, I do, Just he doesn't boost my juice in any way shape or form.
I believe the opposite to what you say is true. The longer total strangers are in the house, the friendlier they get. Take the white room people for instance. By rights, they should have been at each others throats, instead they became each others allies.
And I whole heartedly agree with M about the weight issue. I see it day in, day out in the industry I work in, and we see it every day on our tv screens. If kate looked like Emma, she'd still be in the house.
Amanda, I haven't known anyone! *cries* I've known people who know people in the house....if that makes sense...
Anon, Emma is a fembot! I swear she is battery operated.
Ya know Steph, there's actually a term for the kind of conflicts which develop between groups of people stuck together in a confined environment over periods of time, which is so common it's become a cliche (and the title of a Z-Grade horror movie). You might have heard of it - the term is "cabin fever" :)
As for M's mini-rant - "weight, schmate" I say ! Yes, I too work in advertising; an industry dominated by blonde, anorexic fem-bots (on the female side), and coke-snorting, six-pack sporting, Jude Law wannabe's (on the male side). Yes, countless women's mags, the media and stick-insect celebs like Nicole Ritchie and Victoria Beckham promote 'unrealistic' and 'unhealthy' body images for women (check out these splendid examples of celebrity photo retouching).
The fact remains though, we don't just 'turn' on 'bigger' women based purely on their size. Kathryn Mannheim from The Practice was a great example of a popular 'plus size' star. Oprah Winfrey is another. Missy Elliot & 'Lil' (haha) Kim are two examples from the world of music. Rosanne Barr enjoyed popularity for many years - and she wasn't just 'big', she was a nutter to boot !
In the BB world of course, we've got the example of Chrissie, which we've both mentioned. So *I* call 'bullshit' on the 'we hated Kate because she's bigger than size 10' claims.
No - the public voted her off because she was/is a cow, simple as that.
to throw in a hypothetical, i wonder how it would've played out if emma, who's bitchy as them come, had still been up for eviction? out of her and kate who would've been more likely to be given the boot? i'm putting my money on emma b/c in addition to being a bitchy fembot (lol!) she had the added bonus of being thin and having the fake tits that the same teenage demographic who vote to keep a tosser like bodie in are all the more likely to hate and thus would boot out in first instance. funny though how it always looked like a chick would get voted out first, no matter what.
disappearing boy - Have you ever been to the Behind BB forums? When the show started every second thread was first and foremost about how Kate was ugly and fat. That was basically the whole discussion. If you think that weight isn't an issue then you are totally living on another planet or you have never actually given a serious thought to what it's like to be a woman today. Yes it's an issue. End of story. It's a huge issue in fact.
Chrissie was one in a million - she's a legend and absolutely awesome but if you think there wasn't discussion on the forums back then about how ugly and fat she was then you haven't been around long enough. I remember the forums back then - really horrible horrible stuff was said. Besides her who else has there been on the show that has been a 'normal' size AND successful?
Not. one. single. girl.
The one girl who won it - dumb as a doorknob and thin as anything. Well maybe that's really what people see as deserving of success.
The fact of the matter is that the Oprah's of the world are rare and we all know it. She's fat? Man, she's the poster child for weight loss -and eating disorder actually-, she's made a success out of fighting her fat demons even if she has yo-yoed! Therefore it's okay to like Oprah, also she makes her own rules anyway.
All your examples of bigger women have done the dieting thing. Have a look at Queen Latifa. Lil Kim. Missy. All those women were bigger once upon a time and have had more success after they were shown to be at least "trying". Lil Kim is nothing now compared to what she was like when she started! Roseanne however - she's not trying to be gorgeous - therefore not famous anymore. Even when she was famous she was hated just as much she was loved. She wasn't hated because of what she said but because of how she looked. Also being overweight and being funny/tragic is seen as okay - you don't ever seen women like Roseanne starring in a sexy movie do you? There are rules.
But in any case all those women are exceptions. They are not the norm of a successful formula in a woman. I wish I could say they were but they aren't.
