BB08 is going to be a watershed year for the Big Brother franchise. It's pretty much going to be make or break and with this in mind SSE/Ten are pulling out all the stops to draw in new viewers, entice the old disenchanted fans back, and appease the die hards who've hung on for grim death.
Apart from sacking Gretel Killeen and handing the reins over to Kyle and Jackie-O, they've made some changes that clearly point to a new direction for Big Brother. Moving away from the 'family friendly' version we saw last year, the new season appears to be targeting a more adult demographic.
Thanks to my wonderful insider, these are the a few of the new changes we can expect next year.
*An earlier start, possibly March.
*Shorter season, from fifteen weeks down to twelve.
* A new Monday night program, possibly a return of Uncut. 9.30pm start.
* More audience involvement in the nominations process. Nominations to totally change.
* New Big Brother voice.
*No relationships in the house planned, HOWEVER, auditions are just going onto the website now, that could change depending on how it goes.
*Another competition of some sort for a viewer to become a HM. Like the Starburst one last year.
*Absolutely NEW house, unlike any shown before, and a new stage set up.
And the three major changes that will affect the show more than any other-
The possible introduction of a BB channel on Ten's new HD network.
No rewards room.
Nominations AND evictions to be held on the same night. Sundays are going to be HUGE.
I'm loving the idea of a shorter season. I think everyone agrees it just dragged on for two long this year. Ten to twelve weeks is just right.
The return of Uncut would be an absolute boon! I think it's important to see the HM's uncensored and showing other sides of their personality that can't be shown at the 7pm time slot.
Not to mention the nekkid bits. Meeoowww!!
Nominations needed a change, hopefully the audience involvement and sharing the Sunday eviction night spot will make it more interesting and not just the "filler" show it became on Monday nights.
Similarly, a new BB voice will add a new element for the HM's going in and it's something new for us too. lets hope the new BB is less Nazi like and more up for a bit of fun. As with the change to the house it gives it all a fresh, new feel.
A HD channel devoted to BB is every fans wet dream!! I shudder to think how I'll ever drag myself away from it, but I think it's an awesome idea and long overdue.
I was a fan of the rewards room so i'll be interested to see how the FNL winners will be rewarded.
Sunday night eviction/nom combination is a sure fire winner and will pull massive ratings I predict. Combining the two is a double whammy and fans will not want to miss a second of it.
This revamp is going to breathe new life into the series and if they get the right mix of housemates it has the potential to be the most successful season yet.
Whether that will happen or not remains to be seen.
As was said during the Kevin '07 campaign.
DON'T FUCK IT UP!!!!!
