Big Mouth.

Today, The Daily Terrorgraph announced that the new panel show for Big Brother, called Big Mouth, would be hosted by Tony Squires and Rebecca Wilson. You can read Brekkie's excellent summary on BBBA for the details.

So what do we think about THAT little bombshell?

Well, on the plus side, we have two experienced, pop culture savvy, experienced, mature, journo's hosting the show. They have extensive media skills in print, radio and TV, so they will bring all that to the table on Big Brother.
It's also a huge shot out of left field, so it's adding that shock value, intrigue and anticipation about the new season. All pluses.
The fact that they are two OLDER personalities will also bring a different flavour to the show and hopefully their insights and views will appeal to a much larger audience demographic.

On the down side, they're both essentially sports journalists and one might ask, "Well, what the hell do they know about Big Brother? Have they ever watched the show? Are they fans, will the show be "The Fat" type production with a reality TV perspective"?

We also have to wonder if a BB panel type show will work again after the failure of the venture in 2003.

In my opinion, although I'm not a huge fan of Rebecca Wilson, she doesn't mince words, she's sharp witted and sassy, and she obviously has good chemistry with Tony Squires having worked with him on a TV panel show before and most recently on radio, so I'm going to keep my mind open about this and wait to see what they have to offer.

The major plus and the thing that fills me with hope for the new season, is the mere fact that the producers are trying something different and are going out on a limb with their choices. Although the panel show has been done before, it was probably a little OVER done. Too many panelists, too many big personalities all trying to have their three minute screen grab and it seemed to be a badly put together hash job.

Clearly, things will be different this time. The hosts are not people you would necessarily associate with the Big Brother concept, they're older, more experienced journalists rather than the usual ex-housemate, C grade celeb and pop psych people, and the timeslot is much later (9.30pm weeknight) which also promises us a more "adult" viewing experience.

The other positive I feel is that a panel show allows another avenue for viewer discussion. It's another chance for fans of the show to have a say, to have a voice, and to feel more involved which is certainly a good thing and something that's been missing for too long.

Whether it's a total flop or a huge success, BB is moving in the right direction. People are talking, people are counting down the days and we're ready to embrace the new.

BB, April 28th. BRING. IT. ON!!!!

****Breaking News****
BB promo's to start on the 6th or 7th of April. Keep your eyes peeled!!

I was looking forward to your reaction and it's pretty much the same as mine.

I would have preferred if they'd gone with someone like Kate and Dave Hughes though, but we'll see how it goes.

Steph! You hate this beeyotch! lolz, you're being PC, who's paying you off?????

Not a fan of the sporting people having a say in...well anything actually to be perfectly honest, but like you I'm rapt that
1) older perspective
2) trying something new.
It's really about time they moved away from the teens as the only demographic to market to. Even BB01 was aimed at an older age group than the last series of BB was - and quite frankly I think it was the wrong demographic for them to tackle - the show should have been so much more than what it was. I like the idea of a panel show and I hope they dedicate some of it to a psych type profiling of the characters and their motives ie: this housemate is acting in this way because... (sort of how they used to do). I love the behaviour analysis.

This is going to work. Trust me.

But they both sooooo OLD! Dinasours like Gretal.

wrong, wrong, wrong choice! They're old and past their useby date.

so dissapointed.

Steph said...

dougie, I agree, but it does point away from comedy as such and more towards discussion which I think is a good thing.

Kylie, Shaddap! I said I wasn't a fan, I'm trying to be OPEN MINDED!

Mez, hello gorgeous! I'm a huge fan of the behavioural analysts too. Bring that shit on.

Anon1, I hope you're right.

Me, They're not THAT old!

Anon2, I'm highly amused by all these people willing to write it off before even viewing the first installment!

This news gets me excited about the new series! I'm so glad they haven't picked someone "whacky" like Mike to host.

I'm liking the new direction and looks like they're actually making some effort this time.

BB is the type of show that promotes discussion but never fully utilised this fact. It also had no voive to combat the typical TT & ACA crap.

Hopefully we get some intelligent dicussion along with the fun and entertainment!

You forgot to mention that the first week will only feature Kyle and Jackie-ho and the second week is about BB's big surprise!

Anonymous said...

so what is this BIG SUPRISE????

will we be suprised or like bb's suprises in the past we will be thoroughly disappointed?

Steph said...

Ro, I heartily agree! I'm excited!

Anon1, wow, you're good. Were you peeking over my shoulder?

Anon2, God only knows. I try not to wet my pants too early with these things.

AnonInTheKnow here.

Something molloch! said at BBBA made me want to clarify:

Whilst you may be worried that more room in the compound means more places for the housemates to disperse - fear not. Yes, the compound has expanded again, but the size of the general living areas isn't too different at all.

Just in case that tidbit doesn't ease your qualms - the new, big, expensive feature that I broke news of is designed to confine the housemates.

No, it's not a prison. Consider it more of a means to something else.

Oh, and it's not always on solid ground.

Confused yet?

;)

Steph said...

AnonInTheKnow, I'm always confused. Did you have a good Easter? Are we talking the trampoline floor idea?

Hello I just entered before I have to leave to the airport, it's been very nice to meet you, if you want here is the site I told you about where I type some stuff and make good money (I work from home): here it is

So, it looks like the chosen few have ben called this week or so RR from big brother chaos is saying. Does anyone think there is any truth in this.....that website seems so far fetched some times and anon "knowitall" seemed as if they were far more on the money.

Steph said...

Anon1, Whaaaaat?

Anon2, Don't believe what you read there. They rely on BERAD for thier scoops. Bahahahaha!

Steve said...

Yeah and that BERAT is giving lots of neg karma to those that are sceptical of his bullshit, I don't think the 'chaotic website' believes him though.

Steve said...

Oh yeah, Tony Squires sucks!

BB Producers are about to make a BIG mistake putting these twp asshats that don't even CARE about the show.

Steph said...

Steve, I find it funny that chaotic sling shit at what i say, yet encourage Berad? Wtfness?

Steve said...

*Sigh* I don't understand why the theone had to give the rat his own board, all the members there that I know of don't believe this troll's bullshit but it's one time I agree with you. I am actually discussing this matter via the chatterbox.

Steph said...

RR is such a hypocrite. He says he doesn't want any "insider bullshit" on his forum, then gets all excited in the chatterbox because Berad is online and might post " a scoop".

What a twat.
I'm dying to see what he says once the promo's fail to air this weekend.

Steve said...

I am on the lookout for promos tonight in case they get shown, I do have a sneaking suspicion that they'll start tonight but if anything your theory will most likely turn out to be correct otherwise.

Steph said...

Well it's almost midnight. You given up watching for promo's yet?

Steve said...

Nice try smartass lol, I forgot to post it for about an hour.

Anon intheknow
Do calls go out before participation letters or are they just sent in the mail?

Anonymous said...

So the potential HM's do know they have been chosen. DQ you must have been right! Someone has been named on the channel 10 forum saying that they have already had their publicity photos and vids done.

Anonymous said...

i know who the top 3 are . . .

Michael.
Starvros
Breeanna

i'd put money on it.

Anonymous said...

They are not the top 3

Anonymous said...

Steph, do you know anything about final stage calls going out last week? Do our lucky few know that they may be HM's yet?

Steph said...

steve, Muahahaha!

Anon1, Oh sorry, you weren't talking to me. As you were.

Anon2, Some people HAVE had their publicity stills done. Look, as someone very high up told me
"Nobody knows they are actually a HM till they walk through the doors".

Anon3, I have no idea.

Anon4, See comment above.

Anon5, All successful HM's have been notified at this stage.

Tempest said...

SO many Anons SO little time

:-)

Great work Detective Steph
Getting a *wee* bit excited now.....

Anonymous said...

Steph, Jackie O said on radio last night that calls will be going out next week?
Surely potential intruders would need their publicity stills taken also. I'm guessing that the last round of applicants are doing the promo stuff but they still haven't notified the chosen housemates?

Especially if everyone says the producers are known for changing their mind at the last second. Surely they would need to play it safe and have promo stills and interviews for back ups as well?

Anonymous said...

Just a curious comment. A question to Steph and 'AnonInTheKnow'...

A girl friend of mine says she is currently "with" that party-boy corey kid and that he has already signed contracts to be an intruder; but because he is under 18 he isn't allowed to make any physical contact with any other housemate or take off all his clothes at any one time :S

I personally think its BS, but she seemed pretty confident...
What are the chances of this being true??

AnonInTheKnow might have some idea?

Kylie said...

For the love of shite, disable comments. These questions are driving me nutso!

Give the people your sources email and let them ask directly. Hahaha!

Steph said...

Tempest, Hello my love! I WAS excited but I'm afeared of getting weary before the season even starts *cries*

Anon1, All I know is that some people HAVE HAD their promo's filmed.

Anon2, If they put that arseclown on the show, I'm gonna boycott!!!

Kylie, Haaaaaaa! Um. No.

Anonymous said...

If you're not in now, you're not in! Full stop! They have there cast...originals and intruders and it's crap if anyone says otherwise. You don't have a chance in hell of being called now if you haven't already, whether you're in the 14 who missed out of the top 40 or any other number!

Steph said...

Anon, you ray of sunshine you! You'd know that how?

Anonymous said...

START THE RUMOR MILL! Hopefully Steph can confirm or deny this. I heard there will be a twist on the first night where the boys and girls will be lined up on stage and the female housemates will immediately evict one male housemate and the male housemates will immediately evict one female housemate, all based on looks/first impression. The unfortunate duo will never enter the Big Brother house, however their Big Brother journey will not be over just yet. The dismissed two will get their revenge by selecting three housemates to be quarantined in a special room inside the house. Inhabitants of the secret room, tentatively called "Big Brother Quarantine," will be given a choice every two days. Either take away the official housemates' luxuries to secure their freedom or spend another two days in Big Brother Quarantine. If the quarantined housemates select the first option one of them will exit Big Brother Quarantine and join the rest of the housemates, but the housemates will lose an important luxury (probably something like hot water, but my source suggests that the luxuries include beds which will force the housemates to sleep on the floor in sleeping bags). The main twist is that the housemates will have to live without the luxury until the person who entered the house in replacement of the luxury is evicted. Producers are banking on the fact that all three of the quarantined housemates will chose to become official housemates, which will cause them to become immediate and constant targets for nominations.

Hopefully I explained that right. Steph please let me know if it is true since I would like to know if this person is lying, although I doubt it since they knew all the details.

Steph said...

Anon, I ran your post via someone who knows and they had no problem with it being published, SO, I'm guessing it's not true.

OR

Maybe they don't care? I dunno, but we'll put it out there and see if it flies.

Anonymous said...

Why so quite? and whats with the midgets? Why do we need them ? Can we bowl with them? or are they BB's oompaloompas? they scare me like the dolls that come to life when the lights go out. Creepy. Whats with the chick that want's them to scurry around under her big tits? Her bra must be made of scaffolding.
